This summer we have discovered the joy of summer berry picking in Oregon! Over the past couple of months, we have visited a few different farms all around Portland, but can honestly say that #SmithBerryBarn is one of our favorites. Not only does it have a charming farm store where you can buy quaint homeware, fresh fruit and veggies, flowers and plants to take home, and a latte or milkshake made with fresh fruit at the espresso bar, #SmithBerryBarn is home to chickens and goats that your kids can feed by hand (bring those quarters!). They also have over 20 u-pick, no spray berry varieties all summer long - starting with strawberries and blackberries in June, followed by blueberries, marionberries, tayberries, and raspberries throughout the rest of the summer. This past week we went blackberry and raspberry picking followed by a picnic outside the market with some of our friends - we had the best time!

Ready for picking some Triple Crown blackberries!

Emmy loves picking the berries on her own! She eats most of the berries she picks and most of the juice from those berries end up either smeared all over her face or her shirt. I've learned to look past the mess and realize that she is having fun and engaging in a healthy activity where she is learning to love different fruits and their tastes and textures. If nothing else, she loves spending time with her friends!

After we spent an hour or so berry picking and berry eating, we fed the chickens and goats and visited the farm store! As I mentioned before, be sure to pack along those extra quarters you have laying around the house - if your kiddo(s) is anything like my daughter, they will want to spend an extended period of timing feeding those farm animals!

Be sure to add #SmithBerryBarn to your list of places to-go this fall. A couple of varieties of blackberries and raspberries are ripe for picking as well as a few different kinds of u-pick vegetables (currently a variety of tomatoes and peppers). They also have a small apple and pear orchard if that is of interest to you!
