Located 20 miles southwest of downtown Portland, Mountainside Lavender Farm sits on a slab of rolling hills that, in the hot summer months, are covered in the luscious color of purple - deep and warm along with icy and mellow, depending on the lavender variety. As you pull up in the drive, you'll immediately realize that the farm is set on an idyllic homestead - both the front and back area of the owner's property is blanketed in lavender, ripe and ready for you to pick and bring home. You'll feel right at home on the farm, complete with a welcoming committee that consists of two sets wet noses and wagging tails. And if you get so lucky, you may be delightfully chased by two gangly baby goats born on the farm this summer.
As are many of the lavender farms in Oregon, Mountainside Lavender operates as a "u-pick" farm or, more accurately, a "u-cut" farm. Don't bother bringing your own scissors or your own basket for gathering the purple stems - this farm provides all of that for you. Once you enter the lavender fields, you'll hear the low chattering hum of thousands of honey and bumble bees, harmless but busy.

So grab a picnic and a few friends and spend the morning walking amongst the fields. Grab a bundle to bring home to dry and, as you leave, perhaps grab a bottle of homemade essential oil created right from the fields you just walked. You won't regret it. Mountainside Lavender Farm will be open for u-picking through July. Be sure to visit while you can!
